Skill India Scheme – Overview

Skill India Mission is an initiative launched by the Government of India in 2015 under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). Its objective is to empower India’s youth with relevant skills for employment, entrepreneurship, and personal growth.

🔹 Key Objectives:

  • Train over 40 crore people in India in various industry-related jobs by 2025.
  • Bridge the gap between industry demand and skill availability.
  • Improve employability and productivity of workers.
  • Promote skill training in both rural and urban areas.

📚 Major Components:

  • PMKVY (Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana) – Free short-term training in NSQF-aligned job roles.
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) – Certifying the existing skills of individuals.
  • Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) – Skill programs for non-literates and school dropouts in rural areas.
  • National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) – Encourage on-the-job training and apprenticeships.
  • ITI Upgradation – Modernization and affiliation of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).

👨‍💻 Target Beneficiaries:

Youth between 15–45 years of age including school dropouts, unemployed individuals, and people in informal sectors.
